In collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology College of Architecture, IFAS identified planning, programming and design factors in retirement community settings that encourage people aged 50 and over to remain active.
Based on a nationally representative survey of AAHSA member continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), IFAS developed recommendations for those interested in renovating facilities or improving existing programming to increase opportunities for activity. The study included a literature review, interviews with expert designers and administrators, a sample survey of AAHSA member CCRCs, an advisory committee review of the survey and the results.
